Curriculum and Pedagogy

The curriculum is intentionally structured to build HRM capability across the full HR value chain. Year 1 includes a comprehensive sequence of core HRM function courses—Foundations of HRM, Recruitment & Selection, Learning & Development, Performance Appraisal & Management, and Total Rewards—alongside Industrial Relations, Labour Economics, and strong micro and macro OB. Importantly, Introduction to People Analytics is positioned as a compulsory Year‑1 course (Term III), enabling students to apply data-informed thinking to talent and organisational decisions. Cross-functional exposure to finance, marketing, operations, strategy and information systems ensures graduates can align HR strategy with organisational goals.

Signature Innovations and Curriculum Modernisation

In line with IIM Ranchi’s mission and values, programme restructuring has strengthened HR function readiness without sacrificing general management breadth. Institute-wide modernisation—such as expanding AI-related course offerings and embedding ethical perspectives—supports HRM students in building technology-enabled HR capabilities while maintaining responsible, people-first judgement. These changes improve effectiveness (better HR design and decision quality), efficiency (stronger diagnostics and process discipline), and impact (more humane and sustainable work outcomes).

Experiential Learning and Industry Interface

MBA‑HRM students engage with organisations through internships, practitioner sessions, and HR-focused live projects. The Social Impact Practicum further strengthens stakeholder sensitivity by encouraging students to apply OB/HRM insights to community and SDG-linked challenges—developing socially responsible HR leadership with practical relevance.

Career Outcomes and Recruiter Value

Recruiters value MBA‑HRM graduates for HR function mastery, strong interpersonal skills, and evidence-based people decision capability. Recent placement reporting indicates strong outcomes and growing PPO conversion, reflecting employer confidence in the programme’s applied and strategic HR orientation.

Milestones and Strengths

MBA‑HRM has emerged as a distinctive strength for IIM Ranchi—recognised for its integrated HR architecture, strong OB/HRM faculty base, and the curriculum’s alignment with contemporary workplace priorities such as people analytics, workforce wellbeing, and responsible leadership.
